Molde was nicknamed "the town of roses"
because of the pleasant climate and abundance of vegetation that is typical
of the area. Geographically, much of the municipality occupies south-facing
areas near the fjord where winter conditions are stable and summer
temperatures often high.
The town itself with its islands and skerries lies in the shelter of a
mountain ridge that protects it against the north wind, against a backdrop of
the famous panorama of peaks and mountain formations that has inspired many
artists, including Norway´ s national poet Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson.
